From the late 19th Century and deep into the 20th century, Modern Art movements were emerging in virtually every country. Edouard Vuillard was an important force in this genre, as was his friend Pierre Bonnard, and both were core members of the Nabis (meaning "Prophet" in Hebrew and Arabic), a league of art students who set out to change art forever. Vuillard is also considered a Symbolist, along with artists such as Odilon Redon, and remains to this day a key figure in French Modern art.
