Perhaps one of the most famous and widely known painting movements ever known, French Impressionism took the world by storm in the late nineteenth century. Its founders included the likes of Claude Monet, Edgar Degas and Camille Pissarro. French Impressionism can be considered the first entirely Modern art movement in history with paintings incorporating intensely bright colors, loose, sketchy brushwork and plein air painting methods. This direct violation of academic painting resulted in art masterpieces, art such as Monet's "The Japanese Bridge and Water Lily Pond", Pierre-Auguste Renoir's "The Umbrellas" and Edouard Manet's "Bar at the Folies Bergeres." Enjoy meandering through the many other jewels of the Impressionist movement, building your art and then hanging it in a place of prominence in your home.
