Bruno Liljefors

Bruno Liljefors, born in Sweden in 1860, is regarded as one of the most important wildlife artists of the 19th century. He best known for the dramatic scenes that his wild subjects find themselves in, particularly foxes as predator and prey. Never over-dramatized, the predicaments are as genuine as the photography of current National Geographic wildlife photographers. Using impressionistic methods while also employing incredible detail, Liljefors painted several landscapes, pets, such as dogs and cats, water-fowl and other bird species. In addition, he is considered one of the first comic creators because of his sequential picture stories. He passed away just before Christmas in 1939, leaving behind an enormous collection of original wildlife artwork, which still resonates with audiences today.
