Cassell's The Book of the Dog by Vernon Shaw 1881 

 

 

The Illustrated Book of the Dog by Vero  Shaw was profusely illustrated with over 93 colored plates and black and white engravings and printed in 1881. This was the fourth book on dogs to be printed in English and illustrated with color plates. 

This Book contains the earliest known portraits of the Airedale Terrier and the first color illustrations of the Bedlington Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Irish Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Fox Terrier, Pug, Italian Greyhound, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Irish Water Spaniel, Dachshund, Basset Hounds and Retrievers.

Reproductions are printed on one of five Giclee printers and printed on either waterproof canvas, Arches Water Color Artist's Papers, or a heavy weight offset cover stock for print reproductions. These reproductions are from high quality and high resolution digital reproductions from the original plates from the 1881 edition of the Book of the Dog. The images you see on the internet are lower resolution to aid in the speed of loading for these images on your computers and to protect our high quality reproduction rights for these images.
